Orbex Donates to IRC Earthquake Relief for Syria and Turkey

In response to the devastating earthquakes which struck Turkey and Syria last week, Orbex has made a sizable donation to the International Rescue Committee (IRC).  The donation will be used to support the IRC’s efforts to help people affected by the earthquakes survive this crisis and begin their recovery.

The Turkey-Syria 7.8 magnitude earthquake which struck on the 6th of February 2023 has claimed over 37,000 lives (as of February 14th) and is considered one of the world’s worst natural disasters in decades. Since the earthquake there have been hundreds of aftershocks and millions of people have been affected, losing loved ones, their homes and livelihoods. In Syria, the earthquake has created a “crisis within a crisis” as the country has been ravaged by war for over a decade. On top of the devasting shocks, harsh winter weather with snow and icy winds continue to make conditions even more challenging for survivors and rescue teams in both countries.

Orbex’s donation will help support the immediate focus of the IRC’s relief efforts in the two countries which are now in dire need of help. Specifically, the funds will be allocated towards medical care, food and water, temporary shelter, and winter kits.

Founded at the call of Albert Einstein in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people affected by humanitarian crises—including the climate crisis—to survive, recover and rebuild their lives. Currently, the IRC operates in over 40 crisis-affected countries as well as communities throughout Europe and the Americas.
